Apparently the i-stem of verbs IS the noun version of it...
For some reason I don't hear it at all, so I thought I must've been mistaken, but it's actually rather common.
For example, "yasumi" is the noun form of yasumu. It's a common word actually! It's just so common that it becomes recognised as its own word in dictionaries, instead of being marked as the stem of yasumu...
Another example that I noticed myself. "kanji" (感じ) is the i-stem of the verb 感じる. That's crazy. It's just a word so common that you don't even realise they're related, even when they are. So stay alert for wild i-stems on the loose! They're deadly!
